Cultural Enrichment Committee

The Brackett Cultural Enrichment Program brings approximately eight events to Brackett students each year.  We hire exceptional performers and presenters in music, theater, dance, puppetry, storytelling and art.  Our two all-school events are new each year, and have recently featured music from the Arab world with Karim Nagi, puppetry from National Marionette Theater, improvisational theater from Improv Boston, and songs and stories about Life at Sea with David Coffin.  Our grade specific shows relate directly to topics our students are studying.  For example, students in first grade might see Veronica Robles’ show Mariachi: A Celebration of Mexican Music and Dance.  Students in third grade traditionally build a full sized tipi with Dan Cripps from Native American Perspectives.

Recent Events:

On October 30th Dan Cripps from Native American Perspectives worked with each third grade class to build a full sized tipi.  It was huge!  Mr. Cripps, who has been visiting Brackett students for many years, is a master teacher.  Students respond to his program with great respect and enthusiasm.

On October 19th all fourth and fifth grade students were treated to a presentation by George O’Connor, creator of the graphic novel series Olympians.  George talked about how he develops his books from thumbnail sketches to “dummies” to full color books.  He was funny and energetic, and the students had tons of questions for him!  For more information about George’s books see http://olympiansrule.com/
