Brackett Celebrates Earth Day All Week!

Celebrate Earth Day at Brackett with these exciting activites planned all week:

Tuesday, April 26th, lunch time
Pack a lunch using reusable or recyclable containers—nothing disposable! Try to eat more of your lunch or save it for a snack later in the day. Let’s see how much less we can throw out this day!

Wednesday, April 27th, after school until 3:30pm, meet at garden beds outside kindergarten classrooms
Come see the first stage of the Full Circle Garden by the kindergarten playground and hear about plans for its expansion. Then participate in a fun hands-on planting activity!

What Can a Green Team Do for Your School?

Our children have a lot to say about the environment. Their interests, opinions and energy can help a school keep gardens watered over the summer, inspire litter cleanups, increase collection of recyclable materials and even lead fundraisers that save energy use and expense.

Ask your questions and learn more at one or both of the upcoming information sessions for school-aged students, parents and teachers at the Robbins Library in the 2nd floor conference room:
Monday, February 29 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM; or
Monday, March 7 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM
Facilitated by Charlotte Milan, DPW Recycling Coordinator, and Rachel Oliveri, Brackett Green Initiatives Group

It would be great to have Brackett parents present to share our experiences and gather some new ideas for our Green Team!

New School-Wide Compost Delivery Program!

Brackett is a pioneer in waste reduction practices and has inspired other schools in Arlington and the surrounding communities to engage in similar efforts.

Please read the letter below from Brackett principal, Mrs. Zerchykov, about the details of our lunch room waste reduction program. Part of the program is to deliver compost buckets and trays to Whole Foods Arlington. We need help from Brackett Families to keep this program going.

We're asking each classroom to be responsible for 1-2 weeks throughout the year to deliver our compost buckets and trays to Whole Foods. Details are included in the sign up link below.
