Green Initiatives Group Overview

The Brackett Green Initiatives Group (GIG) is a collection parents, students, teachers and neighbors with a common interest in sharing information and sponsoring activities that raise awareness and engender ecologically sustainable practices within the school community.

Past and current GIG activities include: 

• Conducted a lunchroom waste audit

• Initiated a lunchroom waste-reduction plan

• Implemented a composting program

• Successfully advocated for the change from Styrofoam to compostable lunch trays

• Partnered with Arlington Whole Foods for compost collection

• Re-activated the school green house

• Involved students in planting and cultivating mini pizza garden kits

• Initiated plans and secured funding for a school garden with kindergarten teacher Mrs. Perry

• Annual Earth Day activities

• Annual June Fair plant sale

• After school “Green Team” activities with students

Brackett's Green Team Leads Arlington EcoFest Event!

Congrats to our very own Green Team (GIG) for leading an event at Arlington's EcoFest. Our students taught residents how to recycle an old t-shirt into a bag. Well done!





Join the Brackett Green Team for a “Green Our School!” Program Series

GIG logoThe Brackett Green Team is excited to announce our brand new “GREEN OUR SCHOOL” initiative to ring in the new year!  Please join us on Friday, January 6th after school, 2:30-3:30pm for our official kick off meeting!   

Our series will include a Classroom Recycling Audit (with team captains), Poster Making campaign, and an School-wide Assembly with skits by Green Team students! Stay tuned for more details after the winter break.

As a reminder, delivery of our compost buckets to Arlington Whole Foods can happen at any time of the day or night so all families can participate.
